BRUSSELS OPENS THE FESTIVAL SEASON

COMICS, FOOD, BEER AND ART NOUVEAU

A rich calendar of events is underway, ready to transform every visit to Brussels into a multisensory experience. In October, “Drafts” will debut, an exhibition-event dedicated to the creative process of the works of Rembrandt, Rubens, Magritte and other great artists.

Milan – A selfie with Papa Smurf, the temptations of the palate, the inevitable Belgian beer and the suggestions of performing art: September enlivens the city of Brussels with various festivals, for all tastes and ages.

As per tradition, the month will open with the Comics Festival, BD Comic Strip Festival , from 6 to 8 September : this year's edition is dedicated to Jean Van Hamme , an internationally renowned Belgian cartoonist, author of great successes from the 80s and 90s such as Thorgal, XIII, Largo Winch, from which video games and TV series were also based.

The program includes exhibitions, presentations, conferences and an entire area dedicated to Manga; also noteworthy is the tribute to Dino Attanasio , one of the most famous Italian cartoonists in Belgium, the protagonist of an exhibition that retraces his prolific career, from his early works in Italy to his successes in his later years, such as Bob Morane, Modeste et Pompon and Signor Spaghetti. Naturally, there will also be space for children , with giant balloons representing the most famous characters and the chance to meet the Smurfs, Spirou, Tintin and the other mascots “in person”, ready to take hilarious selfies for a special memory.

For a “delicious” weekend, in the truest sense of the word, the date is with Eat Festival , scheduled in the pavilions of the Gare Maritime from 26 to 29 September . A privileged opportunity to discover what the New York Times recently described as a “young, dynamic and diverse culinary destination” .

Eat Festival brings together a host of Chefs, artisan producers, master cheesemakers and pastry chefs, who will collaborate to create exclusive 3 and 5 course menus every day, served for lunch and dinner . A tasty opportunity for an unforgettable meal, enriched, for those who wish, by side events and tastings, including the election of the best master cheesemaker in Belgium.

In conjunction with Eat Festival, on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September the BXLBeerFest opens a parenthesis on the tradition of Belgian beer , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside the Tour et Taxis, a stone's throw from the Eat Festival stands, you can taste more than 240 labels , produced by around sixty Belgian craft breweries, alongside a selection of independent international producers.

In the kaleidoscope of Brussels there is room for all 5 senses… and also for emotions: after the allurements of taste, make way for the suggestions, provocations and energy of the performing arts, protagonists of the tenth edition of the Artonov Festival .

Inspired by the aesthetic and philosophical canons of the art nouveau movement and, in part, by Japanese sensorial art, the Festival promotes the concept of “total art” , as Henry van de Velde intended it: unifying music, visual arts, architecture, dance, design, theatre and video to offer the public, especially the younger ones, an opportunity that fosters creativity, curiosity and professional emancipation .

The Festival will take place from September 26 to October 13 as always under the guidance of the artistic director Vincenzo Casale, Italian clarinetist and conductor: on the program are about fifteen performances, an exhibition dedicated to Oceanic tribal art and its links with Surrealism and a series of conferences and presentations dedicated to architecture, art and interdisciplinarity.

“DRAFTS: FROM RUBENS TO KHNOPFF” - ROYAL MUSEUMS OF FINE ARTS from 11/10 to 16/2

A look behind the scenes of the most famous works of art, in search of the spark, the illumination, the primordial creative gesture from which a masterpiece is born: this is the proposal of “ Drafts: from Rubens to Khnopff ” exhibition event scheduled at the Museum of Fine Arts – Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium – from 11 October to 16 February . The visit itinerary unfolds in time, from the 15th to the 19th century, with a foray into the 20th century and offers a fascinating journey through ideas, sketches and drafts developed on white sheets of paper, wooden panels and pieces of cardboard: an extraordinary opportunity to elaborate under a new perspective a hundred or so works by iconic artists, such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Magritte.
