Poco distanti tre annessi agricoli, sempre in pietra.

THE NEW LABELS OF STAVES OF CLAVULE
“ Doga ” means small stream in the local dialect while “ Clavule ” comes from the Latin and means vine. This explains the reason for the logo of this winery. The company, crossed by a stream from which it takes its name, extends over a total area of over 130 hectares. On a high hillock stands an ancient stone building. Not far away are three agricultural outbuildings, also in stone. All around the Mediterranean scrub alternates with vineyards and olive groves.
Numerous Etruscan necropolises have been found in the area which bear witness to the existence of populations dedicated to the cultivation of vines since ancient times. Not far from Doga delle Clavule, large terracotta jars were discovered for storing wine, containing seeds of vitis vinifera and two bronze statuettes depicting peasants holding the billhook, the typical tool of the grape harvester.
From the current hectares come the two company labels, the Morellino di Scansano DOCG and the Vermentino Igt Toscana that we had the opportunity to taste and these are our impressions.
VERMENTINO TUSCANY IGT 2022
This Vermentino ages for 4 months in stainless steel tanks and ages for a further 2 months in the bottle. Bottles produced: 20,000. Shelf price €12.00.
Vermentino is a vine of uncertain origin, but after numerous researches it is considered a variety of Malvasia Grossa from the eastern Pyrenees which spread towards the end of the 19th century in France. From here it would have landed on the Maremma coasts where it acclimatised acquiring varietal characteristics which in these areas make it a well-recognizable vine and significantly different from the one grown in Liguria and Sardinia.
In the Tuscan Maremma, Vermentino grows on rolling hills and on soils of sedimentary and loose neo-autochthonous origin, originating from marine sediments of Pliocene origin, benefiting both from the sea breezes, which also minimize the possibility of diseases for the vine, and from the light reflected by the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Vermentino Doga delle Clavule, as Alessandra Angelini (daughter of the owner) defines it, is "Maremmana water", the summer wine par excellence, the perfect wine for long aperitifs on the boat and for all the carefree moments that Alessandra and her brother Igino have spent since their adolescence on the Argentario. Motivated by these memories, the two brothers strongly desired to produce a young, fresh wine that would take them back to their Maremma summers. The label, designed and created by them, depicts this, the blue sea with a sail on the horizon.
With a straw yellow color and a good structure, it has intense aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple and mango, a note of yellow peach and hints of white wild flowers that anticipate a smooth, savory and fragrant sip, with a continuous development and a still pleasant finish fruity.
MORELLINO DI SCANSANO DOCG 2021
The Morellino di Scansano DOCG is a young wine but with a great personality, it is aged for 6 months in 500-litre French oak tonneaux and aged for a further 4 months in the bottle.
It is the wine that contains the purest expression of Maremma, its people and its traditions, the wine of butteri intent on galloping in the Maremma expanses, and it is precisely this that the family wanted to represent in the new label.
Intense ruby red colour. It gives the nose a bouquet full of nuances that gradually reveal themselves: it opens with delicate hints of violet followed by aromas of black cherry, blackberry, raspberry and pomegranate on a slightly spicy background of licorice and coffee powder .
On the palate it is broad, elegant, harmonious, savory. The sip is flowing, driven by an excellent balance between softness and tannic texture, with an elegant and persistent finish, not very long, which turns on a bitter tail.
