I NOSTRI ASSAGGI

MALVASIA FRIZZANTE DOC “FERRAIA” 2022
Uvaggio: 100% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica
Bottiglie prodotte: 13.000.

CHARDONNAY COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2020
Uvaggio: 100% chardonnay
Bottiglie prodotte: 6.000. Prezzo al pubblico in cantina € 10,00. Maturazione in acciaio e successivo affinamento in bottiglia.
Perfetta corrispondenza naso/bocca.

IL GRÌ - SAUVIGNON COLLI PIOACENTINI DOC 2019
Uvaggio: 100% Sauvignon
Bottiglie prodotte: 6.000. Prezzo al pubblico in cantina € 9,50. Maturazione in acciaio e successivo affinamento in bottiglia.

Uvaggio: 60% Barbera e 40 % Bonarda

BARBERA COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2019
Uvaggio: 100% Barbera.
Bottiglie prodotte: 6.000. Prezzo al pubblico in cantina € 9,00. Affinamento in acciaio.
Uvaggio: 50% Merlot - 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bottiglie prodotte: 3.000.

LA FERRAIA, TYPICAL PIACENTINI WINES AND MUCH MORE THAN TRADITION
- Written by Mauro Maccario
Tenuta Ferraia di Vicomarino di Ziano Piacentino in the last period has collected 16 awards in some of the most important wine competitions and 5 mentions in two sector guides. Awards that have gone to some of the symbolic wines of this land, long forgotten or little considered by most of the wine critics, such as Malvasia and Gutturnio, and to others obtained from international vines such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon which in the Piacenza area are able to express themselves in products of great value.
Tenuta Ferraia is a historic company in this area, nestled in the hills of the valley and surrounded by expanses of vineyards as far as the eye can see. La Ferraia is a family business in constant evolution. The Manara family, owner of the estate, already took part in the important National Table Grape Show in the 1930s which took place in Piacenza and was among the first to transform itself to start the production of must grapes. In 1939, the Fratelli Manara winery was the first to affix the label with the name of Gutturnio on the bottles. Today the property extends for 40 hectares of vineyards and is equipped with a cellar, with its own modern and technological bottling line.
For the vinification, only the best quality must is used, the flower must, which, thanks to the action of the natural yeasts present on the berries, is fermented slowly and at a low temperature to preserve the aromatic richness of each selected vine. For red berried grapes, the procedure involves crushing-destemming which allows the stalks to be separated from the berries.
For the production of yellow wines, in an autoclave, fermentation always takes place slowly and at controlled temperatures, so as to maintain the aroma of each single vine. First and second passage barriques are used for still and structured wines.
La Ferraia offers some very interesting still wines from an organoleptic point of view but also with a very convenient quality/price ratio that are certainly worth taking home together with their traditional Gutturnio Superiore: Le Staffe .
OUR TASTINGS
SPARKLING MALVASIA DOC “FERRAIA” 2022
Grapes: 100% Malvasia di Candia Aromatica
Bottles produced: 13,000. Price to the public in the cellar € 6.50. Aging in steel barrels where a slow refermentation completes its fragrance.
For years mistreated, undervalued, repudiated by critics, sparkling, effervescent wines, those of the Piacenza tradition and beyond, are regaining a new vitality thanks also to a significant increase in production quality, the result of the efforts of intelligent producers who, with passion and dedication, they have been able to put aside the quantitative aspects in favor of the qualitative ones.
One of these results is the Malvasia Frizzante Doc of Tenuta Ferraia with a light straw yellow color with golden reflections, a lively foam that fades quickly and a delicate perlage that fades slowly. The delicate perfume reveals the typical characteristics of the vine which refer to fresh flowers and aromatic herbs. Flowers and wisteria in particular, fruit with yellow pulp, ends with the citrus aroma of lemon and mineral notes that enrich it and make it complex, not at all saccharine.
Pleasant on the palate, of good finesse, persistent with delicate returns of fruit and an equally captivating sip: straight, direct, with an unexpected sapidity, good acidity, sparkling at the right point, quite long with an aftertaste that veers bittering.
CHARDONNAY COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2020

Delicate, almost ethereal aromas of yellow fruits and flowers with the addition of dried fruit, with hints, in particular, of tropical fruit, mango and papaya, rose and wisteria. On the palate it is dry, soft and fresh, with evident sapidity, with a great taste/olfactory impact, rightly warm and very long in the finish. Perfect nose / mouth match.
IL GRÌ - SAUVIGNON COLLI PIOACENTINI DOC 2019

Bottles produced: 6,000. Price to the public in the cellar € 9.50. Maturation in steel and subsequent refinement in the bottle.
Straw yellow in color with golden reflections, the nose has notes of elderberry, tomato leaf, peach, citrus and a fresh mineral note. In the mouth it is structured, balanced, dry, slightly mineral and with a remarkable final persistence.
LE STAFFE - SUPERIOR CLASSIC GUTTURNIO COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2021
Grapes: 60% Barbera and 40% Bonarda
Bottles produced: 25,000 Price to the public in the cellar € 9.00. Aging in stainless steel barrels for 3-4 months.
The name Gutturnio, the red symbol of Piacenza wines (40% of DOC hectares) obtained from a blend of Barbera (from 55 to 70%) and Croatina (from 30 to 45%), which in Piacenza is called Bonarda, derives from the Latin “ Gutturnium ” a term which identified a silver cup decorated with finely chiseled rhomboidal figures, used in Roman dinners and found, depending on the version, either during the excavations of Veleia Romana towards the end of the 19th century or on the bank Piacenza of the Po, near Croce Santo Spirito.
Gutturnio le Staffe produced by the La Ferraia estate has a dark purple-red color. The nose develops a fresh, fruity aroma, with a clear hint of wild berries and cherry, with citrus notes of blood orange in the background, enriched by light graphite scents. It is not a wine that is too complex in its aromas, but it makes you want to drink it immediately.
On the palate it releases a rich and full flavour, balanced and fragrant. It works on fruit and flowers, it's not heavy and moves with a certain cleanliness. The tannins, although present, are quite smooth, even if they maintain a somewhat rough aspect. Overall, it is a very pleasant, carefree glass that goes easily with food and, therefore, gastronomic.
BARBERA COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2019
Grapes: 100% Barbera.
Bottles produced: 6,000. Price to the public in the cellar € 9.00. Aging in steel.
Ruby red with violet reflections. Intense on the nose, it is characterized by notes of violet and black plum. It gives off a sense of cleanliness that continues with sensations that refer to balsamic vinegar and rhubarb. In the mouth it is full, enveloping and dense with well-marked raspberry pulp. The acidity that exists does not yet play the leading role. However, it is sapid and long in the finish. A quality Barbera that still needs to open up a bit.
BRIGÀ - COLLI PIACENTINI DOC 2019 RED WINE
Grapes: 50% Merlot - 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Bottles produced: 3,000. Price to the public in the cellar € 12.00. Aging in barriques for about a year.
Ruby red with light garnet reflections. The nose is fruity and delicate, expressing aromas of cherry, blackberry, blueberry, but also a light spicy note of vanilla with a herbaceous background that makes it captivating.
On the palate it is velvety, balanced, fresh and harmonious. With fine and delicate tannins, a red wine that never tires you, decidedly drinkable and very gastronomic.
