I Bianchi
-
I Rossi
-

VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI BIANCO DOC "5 Viti" 2025
Bottiglie prodotte: 20.000 - € 18,00
All'esame visivo mostra una buona consistenza, muovendosi in modo sinuoso e invitante.
CAPRETTONE VESUVIO BIANCO DOC "Benita '31" 2025
Bottiglie prodotte: 15.000 - € 18,00
Poi i sentori vegetali.
L'attacco in bocca è gradevole, agile e scorrevole.

DÒRÈ CAPRETTONE VESUVIO SPUMANTE MILLESIMATO DOC BIANCO 2024
Bottiglie prodotte: 12.000 - € 22,00

VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI ROSATO DOC "5 Viti" 2025
Bottiglie prodotte: 15.000 - € 18,00

PIEDIROSSO VESUVIO ROSSO DOC "7 Moggi" 2024
Bottiglie prodotte: 15.000 - € 18,00

VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI ROSSO DOC "5 Viti" 2024
Bottiglie prodotte: 20.000 - € 18,00

ENGLISH VERSION
THE ORGANIC AND VOLCANIC WINES OF SORRENTINO
The organic wines of Vesuvius (which mainly fall under the DOC Vesuvio , including the famous Lacryma Christi designation) are produced from rare and resistant native varieties:
The Whites
-
Caprettone: Often confused in the past with Coda di Volpe, this is the true white king of the volcano. It produces wines of great freshness, with floral notes of broom and a distinct mineral and saline finish.
-
Catalanesca: Once a table grape, now successfully vinified. It produces fresh, citrusy, and long-lived white wines.
-
Falanghina and Coda di Volpe: They complete the blend of Lacryma Christi Bianco, providing structure and fruity aromas.
The Reds
-
Piedirosso (locally known as Per' 'e Palummo ): This is the red grape par excellence of Vesuvius. It produces a medium-bodied wine with delicate tannins, characterized by aromas of small red fruits, geranium, and a distinct smoky and ash note.
-
Aglianico: Often blended with Piedirosso to give greater structure, body, and aging potential to reds and reserves.
To discover the volcano's aromas through an organic glass, there are several historic, family-run companies that have made sustainability their trademark. Among these, a true benchmark stands out: Sorrentino Vini (Boscotrecase), one of the most important companies in the field and among the very first organic pioneers on Vesuvius.
The Sorrentino family (now in its fifth generation) preserves the volcanic tradition by creating excellent versions of Lacryma Christi DOC Bio , both white and red. The company also stands out for its innovation and quality, producing highly regarded sparkling wines from Caprettone grapes and showcasing the terroir through its single-varietal Falanghina and Catalanesca wines.
The organic and volcanic wines of the Sorrentino estate in Boscotrecase are the perfect liquid expression of Vesuvius. Grown on soils rich in potassium, phosphorus, and lava microelements, at an altitude that benefits from both the sea breeze from the Gulf of Naples and the volcano's temperature variations, they are distinguished by a precise identity: vibrant acidity, deep minerality, and a distinct, unmistakable saline note.
The choice of certified organic and the care of centuries-old vines (often ungrafted , that is, not grafted onto American roots) allow Sorrentino to bottle the volcano without filters.
Among the company's product lines, the " Classic Line" represents the most authentic and eclectic soul of this winery. It is here that native Campanian grape varieties—such as Caprettone , Falanghina , Piedirosso , and Aglianico — express themselves with extraordinary candor and drinkability, without ever sacrificing the mineral complexity that only volcanic soil can impart. This line doesn't sacrifice complexity, but makes it accessible, immediate, and decidedly exciting.
And here are our impressions.
VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI BIANCO DOC "5 Viti" 2025
Bottles produced: 20,000 - €18.00
The name "5 Viti" is a direct and captivating reference to the fifth generation of the Sorrentino family, currently at the helm of the company. This line embodies the value of generational continuity in its very name and celebrates the farsighted vision of its ancestor, Nonna Benigna, who has preserved the volcano's five historic grape varieties over time: Caprettone, Falanghina, Greco, Piedirosso, and Aglianico.
Unlike other estate labels (such as the more vertical and altitude-bound "Vigna Lapillo"), the "5 Viti" Bianco is the entry-level wine in the range, designed to express the Vesuvian terroir in an immediate, convivial, and enjoyable way. In the yellow version, this precious heritage translates into a blend dominated by the authentic Caprettone (80%) , traditionally complemented by Falanghina (10%) and Greco (10%) . Thanks to direct vinification in stainless steel, the wine offers a wonderfully rounded and fruity expression.
In the glass , the wine has a bright and highly attractive chromatic effect: a clear, luminous, and brilliant straw yellow . The slight greenish reflections testify to the youth and freshness of the vintage. Visually, it displays good consistency, moving in a sinuous and inviting manner.
The olfactory profile is intense, clean, complex, and distinctly territorial. Far from playing on banal scents, the bouquet reveals itself as a magnificently intricate blend of myriad fragrances. The opening is fruity and exotic, with rich notes of white and yellow fruit (white and yellow peach, white melon, and Cossack pear) blending with lively hints of grapefruit, mandarin orange, pineapple, papaya, and passion fruit. The aromatic spectrum then shifts to floral and vegetal nuances, with hints of chamomile, acacia, linden, and broom (Caprettone's unmistakable signature) emerging, enhanced by touches of sage and saffron. It then unfolds on a volcanic matrix from which emerge wild Mediterranean herbs, blending with pleasant, characteristic sulfurous notes, combined with a subtle mineral trace of lava rock and hydrocarbon.
On the palate, it unleashes all its dynamic energy and welcoming nature. The sip opens softly and fruitily, revealing a pleasant roundness guided by hints of melon, peach, and a lingering almond note. The palate is immediately struck by a vibrant acidic freshness and an almost marine savoriness. The lava rock and sand on which the vines grow yield a taut, juicy, lively, and responsive sip. The finish is delightful, incisive, and persistent for a medium-long period. It leaves the mouth feeling absolutely clean, balsamic, elegantly almondy, and taut.
CAPRETTONE VESUVIO WHITE DOC "Benita '31" 2025
Bottles produced: 15,000 - €18.00
Benita 31 is a pure Caprettone, made from grapes harvested in mid-September and vinified exclusively in stainless steel and glass to preserve the integrity of the fruit. This historic yellow grape variety is an archetype of the Vesuvian region; long confused in the past with Coda di Volpe, today Caprettone proudly asserts its unique identity, distinguishing itself precisely by its greater and vibrant freshness.
In the glass it displays a bright and beautiful straw yellow color, not very deep, magnificently streaked with young greenish reflections and flashes of chlorophyll green that anticipate its vibrant youth.
The captivating and complex bouquet unleashes a wealth of distinct and delicate aromas, intertwining in perfect territorial balance. Initial notes of Rennet and Golden Delicious apples, Williams pears, white peaches, white melons, and apricots are enhanced by lively notes of mandarin and candied citrus, finishing with a hint of fresh almond. Then come the vegetal notes. Floral notes of jasmine, mimosa, and the delicate aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub emerge. The underlying note is enriched by pleasant sulfurous traces, well-integrated with subtle nuances and spicy fragments.
The attack on the palate is pleasant, agile, and smooth. The sip begins with a citrusy, moderately fresh note. The silhouette is slender, subtle, and extremely elegant. On the palate, the wine is graceful, lively, and savory, capable of developing in a clean, graceful, and seductive manner. It's an intriguing sip that balances a delicate softness with a deep minerality. The finish is remarkably clean, characterized by that typical and pleasant bitter almond finish.
DÒRÈ CAPRETTONE VESUVIO SPARKLING WINE MILLESIMATO DOC WHITE 2024
Bottles produced: 12,000 - €22.00
The name “ DòRè” is not a simple play on words linked to the golden reflections of the wine, but a true historical and linguistic tribute: in Neapolitan dialect it recalls the expression “ dò rré” (of the king), testifying to the ancient presence of the Caprettone vine on Vesuvius since the time of Charles of Anjou.
Long relegated to the shadow of Lacryma Christi blends, the sparkling wine production of Caprettone represents one of the Sorrentino family's most fascinating and successful challenges, having recognized the variety's potential as a stand-alone wine. Caprettone possesses two extraordinary natural qualities for sparkling wine production: a thick skin that protects the purity of its aromas and a vibrant acidity, essential for injecting dynamism into the bubbles. When this pronounced acidity meets lava soils rich in ash and lapilli, the result is a unique sparkling wine interpretation in Italy, far removed from both the softness of Prosecco and the austere severity of certain Northern sparkling wines.
To explore every nuance of the grape variety, the company skillfully moves between different cellar techniques: on the one hand it experiments with the long Charmat Method (10 months) to preserve the fruity and floral immediacy of the grape, while in the best vintages it elevates the Caprettone through the complexity of the Classic Method , giving it a prolonged stay on the lees aimed at blending the indomitable soul of Vesuvius with the elegance of the great evolved sparkling wines.
In the glass, the wine reveals a brilliant straw yellow color, enhanced by vivid golden highlights. The foam shows excellent persistence, while the perlage is fine, persistent, and medium-persistent, perfect for sparking conviviality from the first visual impressions.
The nose amazes with a complex and surprising structure, combining youth and evolution. Initially, it's an unusual and captivating explosion of red and black berries (black cherry, currant, raspberry, blueberry) and white peach, joined by yellow broom flowers and geranium, nestled within a clear backdrop of Mediterranean scrub. The olfactory profile is enriched with delicate hints of croissant and bread crust. In the background, the unmistakable signature of the terroir: a whispered sulfurous trace and a deep, lava-like minerality.
On the palate, the wine is fragrant, juicy, and beautifully balanced. The entry offers a creamy bubble, but the palate quickly develops into a decisive burst of acidity and saline. The medium-lingering finish is supported by a dynamic freshness and a savory finish that perfectly cleanses the mouth, constantly reminding us that we are on the slopes of an active volcano.
VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI ROSATO DOC "5 Viti" 2025
Bottles produced: 15,000 - €18.00
The Vesuvio Lacryma Christi Rosato "5 Viti" represents one of the most surprising, versatile, and successful interpretations of the Sorrentino family's entire organic production. Volcanic rosés often risk being overshadowed by their yellow and red siblings, but this wine elegantly demonstrates how the Vesuvius terroir can enhance the freshness and elegance of "subtraction" rosé winemaking.
The wine is made from the same historic varietal pairing as Lacryma Christi Rosso, hand-picked in the sandy, lapilli-rich vineyards of Boscotrecase. Manual harvesting allows for the selection of grapes at the perfect point of ripeness, ensuring the highest expression of quality. The blend features Piedirosso (approximately 80-90%) , the volcano's flagship grape variety, which lends a delicate, crisp fruitiness, complemented by a small percentage of Aglianico (10-20%) , which adds structure, depth, and a light spiciness. Thanks to the very brief contact of the must with the skins, a light, immediate, and markedly convivial profile is achieved, while still retaining the distinct, deep minerality that distinguishes Sorrentino's production from generic rosés from other areas.
In the glass, the wine presents a stunning, brilliant, and multifaceted color: a pale cherry pink with captivating copper highlights, reminiscent of the peel of a fresh pomegranate or the hues of coral. Its beautiful clarity and sinuous fluidity immediately invite tasting.
The nose reveals a rich and profound melting pot, in which the delicate fruit dialogues masterfully with the wild and untamed timbre of the volcano. The opening offers a generous supply of small red and wild berries (wild strawberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, morello and black cherries), embellished with hints of pomegranate, yellow peach, quince, and citrus nuances of pink grapefruit and chinotto. The mosaic is completed with a floral bouquet of rosehip petals, geranium, and red flowers, along with vegetal notes of aromatic Mediterranean herbs, particularly thyme and mint. As the wine gently warms in the glass, the territorial matrix emerges forcefully. A distinct salty note combines with veins of volcanic earth and a subtle minerality reminiscent of wet lava stone.
On the palate, it plays its best cards on the crispness of the fruit, its dynamism, and an extraordinary suppleness . The sip is agile, flowing, and refreshing, guided by juicy yet rigorously dry fruit, free of cloying sweetness. It is a tamed, mellow wine, yet possessing an unexpected strength for this type of wine. Piedirosso provides that millimeter of subtle, almost imperceptible tannin that lends a splendid backbone to the palate. The sip is caressing, harmonious, and intriguing, brimming with an acidic freshness that almost takes the mouth hostage, keeping the drink lively and responsive. The finish is dominated by a sharp, minerally flavor that leaves the mouth pleasantly dry, offering an elegant citrus aftertaste.
PIEDIROSSO VESUVIO ROSSO DOC "7 Moggi" 2024
Bottles produced: 15,000 - €18.00
" 7 Moggi" is the first Piedirosso Vesuviano born from a precise viticultural and oenological specialization of this historic grape variety, grown on a company plot of land extending precisely seven moggi. This native variety is locally called " per'e palumm" (dove's foot) due to the characteristic reddish-purple color of the shoot and rachis, which resembles a pigeon's foot. Vinified as a single varietal (100% Piedirosso) and aged exclusively in stainless steel , this wine is the fruit of a unique area: the Vesuvian environment. The Sorrentino family, together with a few other courageous local winemakers, is the faithful guardian of this wonderful territory, translating its essence into a series of wines with a distinct territorial imprint.
The wine presents itself with a livery punctuated by a dazzling and spectacular, light ruby red color. The nose is the fortunate recipient of a copious, varied, and intensely modulated bouquet. It is a layered olfactory profile that unfolds in beautiful succession. Vivid hints of cherry, strawberry, and raspberry emerge, combined with small wild drupes from the undergrowth. This is followed by intertwined floral notes of clove and violet. The picture is enriched with the typical imprints of the Mediterranean scrub and unexpected spicy hints of nutmeg and curry. Mineral sensations and subtle sulfurous notes, the indelible signature of the lava soil, are also present.
The palate is immediately captivated by the smooth, light sip. It's a genuine, gentle, and accommodating wine, which unfolds on the palate in an airy, understated, and beautifully blended manner. The freshness is vibrant, and the tannins are gentle and caressing, offering an elegant, sensual, and never heavy drink. It will be interesting to evaluate its longevity. The finish is deliciously fruity and nuances with a characteristic, pleasant bitter note that perfectly cleanses the palate.
VESUVIO LACRYMA CHRISTI ROSSO DOC "5 Viti" 2024
Bottles produced: 20,000 - €18.00
While the yellow and rosé wines in the range focus on immediate freshness, the Rosso from the "5 Viti" line is the wine in which the dark earth, ash, and heat of Vesuvius emerge in a warmer, more enveloping way. This organic blend is composed primarily of Piedirosso (90%) , a grape variety that symbolizes the Vesuvian identity and lends agility and fruity aromas, strengthened by a balance of Aglianico (10%) , which provides the right structure, a more defined tannic backbone, and longevity.
Within Sorrentino's red wine line, "5 Viti" represents the most accessible, direct, and convivial version, distinguishing itself from the more complex and evolved "Vigna Lapillo" reserve (which requires lengthy aging in wood). Here, the stainless steel vinification aims to preserve the wine's drinkability and fruity freshness, while preserving the unmistakable sensory signature that the volcanic soil and lava sands of Boscotrecase impart to the glass: the extraordinary combination of ripe red fruit and smoky notes.
In the glass, the wine reveals an intense, full-bodied, and sparkling ruby red hue . It displays a beautiful consistency and medium transparency, typical of carefully vinified Piedirosso.
The nose is deep, broad, warm, and elegantly restless, revealing an olfactory kaleidoscope of great sensorial impact, alternating evocative sweet accents with decidedly wild and tertiary scents. The initial impact is a triumph of ripe red and black fruits. Morello cherry, plum, strawberry, and pomegranate stand out, alongside berries (currants, blueberries, blackberries, and black mulberries). In concert, nuances of carob, almond, walnut kernel, and orange peel emerge, combined with floral pulses of violet and geranium. Vegetal and balsamic notes of thyme, sage, gentian, and eucalyptus immediately emerge. It is the base note that defines the wine's profound character. A rich and captivating combination of ash, graphite, and flint is evident, enriched by that subtle touch of tar and smoke that characterizes volcanic reds.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, masterfully combining the smoothness of Piedirosso with the character of Aglianico. The palate is expertly evolved, deep, soft, and rounded, yet at the same time lively and graceful. The tannic texture is pleasantly tapered, with fine, silky, and extremely delicate tannins. The palate is balanced by a pleasant glycerine component that makes the sip caressing and mellow. The wine never lacks a sharp burst of acidic freshness and just the right amount of minerality that lightens the drink, making it dynamic and harmonious. The finish is clean and long-lasting, with a consistent return of the fruity notes and a smoky trail that prolongs the memory of the volcano in an enveloping aftertaste.
