0.ENOPRESS WINE SPECIAL

ENGLISH VERSION

Recently in Eastern Friuli, to fight against harmful insects, the historic company Zorzettig, in collaboration with the University of Udine, experimented in the vineyards with a study linked to the Biodiversity Care project, with the aim of proving the effectiveness of biological control through the increase of predatory insects and other useful organisms in vineyards managed with alternating mowing and green manure.

We have given an account of the experimentation and the phases of the study here .

Daughter of these studies and chosen with respect to the environment, it is the flagship line of Zorzettig "Myò" which includes wines that are mainly born from native vines and want to be a celebration of the Colli Orientali del Friuli and their biodiversity, history and culture .

Today the company, led by Annalisa Zorzettig since 2006, owns an extension of vineyards of 120 hectares divided into three different areas: Colli di Spessa, a stone's throw from Cividale del Friuli, Colli di Ipplis, where the company's Relais is located and Colli di Novacuzzo in Prepotto. Annual production is on average 800,000 bottles. Exports are 50% with a historic presence in Austria and Germany and a growing penetration in various markets, from Asia to the United States, from Australia to Northern Europe.

Zorzettig is a winemaking company esteemed thanks to its efficiency model combined with sustainability. Annalisa is particularly sensitive about this last issue, as is her brother Alessandro who helps her. Since 2016 the company has joined the SQNPI protocol, completely abandoning the use of chemical weed control and trying to work to provide a double service: both to humans, ensuring adequate productivity, and to the ecosystem. The latter not only needs to be preserved, it is necessary to find a state of balance that favors the prosperity of all living beings that inhabit it.

But let's go back to the company's flagship line, "Myò", of which we were able to appreciate two labels: two yellow wines, namely a pure Friulian and a blend (Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Friulano).

FRIULI COLLI ORIENTALI DOC MYÒ FRIULANO 2021
100% Friulano, fermentation and 12 months of maturation on fine lees 50% in steel and 50% in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by another 6 months of refinement in the bottle before being put on sale.

Poured into the glass it reveals a bright straw yellow color with light greenish reflections. The onset on the nose is clearly in favor of fresh wild flowers, it smells of hawthorn, of liquorice which anticipates the ripe fruit: white peach and yellow plum. With slow oxygenation, citrus nuances of cedar, hints of anise emerge together with a beautiful mineral vein.

In the mouth it is soft and enveloping, with good persistence. The freshness of the sip is in the foreground, it returns a lively flavor just right to support the fruit, here with light citrus and honey nuances with an almond finish.

FRIULI COLLI ORIENTALI DOC MYÒ I FIORI DI LEONIE 2020
Blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon, separate fermentation of the three vines and maturation for 9 months in steel, large barrels and barriques; assembly and subsequent rest in large Slavonian oak barrels.

In the glass it has a bright straw yellow color with golden streaks. The initial aromas are mainly based on floral notes of broom and orange blossom, hints of chamomile that leave room for memories of golden apple, plum, lychee, apricot and citrus hints of grapefruit.

On the palate it reveals an excellent structure, linear and very corresponding to the aromatic contribution, an evident savory vein and a solid freshness make it balanced and pleasant, with a fairly long persistence. A wine that is very drinkable, a smooth sip with a finish of acacia honey aftertaste.
