0.ENOPRESS WINE SPECIAL

Sapore pieno, teso e salino. Bevuta fresca, fruttata e sapida invoglia sempre al sorso successivo.

0.ciavolich FOSSO CERASUOLO2x

FOSSO CANCELLI CERASUOLO D'ABRUZZO DOP 2022

 Bottiglie prodotte: 4.000. Montepulciano 100%

0.Cingilia Rosato

ROSATO COLLINE PESCARESI IGT 2022

Bottiglie prodotte: circa 5000. Prezzo di vendita € 15,00.

Montepulciano 100%.

ENGLISH VERSION

For years now, the qualitative growth of Abruzzo's winemaking has been clear for all to see and the extraordinary growth in the level of local wines is increasingly appreciated in Italy and abroad, with the region establishing itself as one of the most dynamic , with a viticulture that has always been present between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso d'Italia and Majella massifs.

Driven by the historic fame of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, which has always been the standard-bearer of regional oenology in the world, Abruzzo is not only and has never been just red wines, but also yellow wines with character and, above all, pink wines with a DOC specifically dedicated, the Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Doc.

Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a wine characterized by a cherry colour, very eclectic in pairings, thanks to the presence of acidity and structure. The area of the denomination includes the entire coastal and foothill hilly strip of the region, with the vineyards extending into the municipalities of all four provinces of Abruzzo: Chieti, L'Aquila, Pescara and Teramo.

We take into consideration two areas, that of the Pescarese area and the Teramo hills, which in recent years have proven to be very interesting and dynamic.

The Pescarese area

In the Pescarese area, in Loreto Aprutino, there is one of the oldest and most interesting realities for the production of Abruzzo pink wines. The Ciavolich wine company and farm  (family of Bulgarian wool merchants, who arrived in Abruzzo in the sixteenth century and became landowners over the centuries), winery since 1853, custodian of a centenary tradition where the eclectic Chiara has continued the family tradition.

Loreto Aprutino is one of the most suitable areas of the region, thirty-five hectares of vineyards that can be admired from Masseria Ciavolich, a farmhouse adjacent to the production site where it is possible to stay overnight (the structure has 6 deluxe rooms obtained from the rural environments of the Masseria  , proceeding with a careful restoration to enhance the ancient materials present: wood, stone and brick).

The production consists of reds and rosés from Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, yellows from Trebbiano Abruzzese, Pecorino, Passerina, Cococciola and Chardonnay, wines of noble workmanship, identifying the territory and respectful of the variety of origin, defined «candid, clean and deep of soul».

Two pink wines were produced that arrived at the editorial office and we had the opportunity to taste, one from the "Ciavolich" line, local wines made at the same time and respectful of the variety of origin, and one from the "Fosso Cancelli" line, photography wines, testimonials of a past world.

CERASUOLO D'ABRUZZO DOP 2022

Bottles produced: 15,000. Montepulciano 100%

Intense cherry pink. Elegant aromas of wild strawberries, black cherry, blood orange and hints of white pepper framed by aromatic herbs. Full, tense and saline flavour. When drunk fresh, fruity and tasty, it always invites you to the next sip.

FOSSO CANCELLI CERASUOLO D'ABRUZZO DOP 2022

 Bottles produced: 4,000. Montepulciano 100%

Fosso Cancelli is a line dedicated to the past: spontaneous fermentations and traditional materials; cement and amphora for a Cerasuolo in numbered bottles which shows the oldest vineyards of the Loreto Aprutino estate on the label, to underline the strong link with the territory. Mine is numbered 133. Intense and brilliant cherry pink with violet shades. Very marked fruity sensory notes reminiscent of strawberry, cherry, red fruit jam and hints of mint. The notes of freshness and flavor typical of cerasuolo stand out on the palate, with a pleasant finish with a soft and rounded taste. It is a decidedly gastronomic wine.

20 km south-west of Chieti, still in the province of Pescara, in Cugnoli , we find the interesting Cingilia winery   which was given the ancient Roman name of the town.

Twenty hectares distributed in various areas around Cugnoli between arable land, olive groves and vineyards managed by a "conscious craftsman", as the young producer Fabio di Donato likes to define himself, who manages to manage the work in the cellar well and produce incisive and not at all homologated wines .

There are six hectares of vineyards that extend near the cellar, with both yellow and red grape varieties including: Cococciola, Pecorino, Passerina, Trebbiano and Montepulciano. The soils are diversified, with some lower and sandy areas, rich in skeleton, while others are deeper and still others of alluvial origin, devoid of parent rock. In the neighboring hills there are also gray clays, soils where the red grape varieties are planted, while the yellow grapes are found in the lower part, near a stream.

Cingilia has been certified organic since 2022, carrying out treatments with copper and little sulphur, increasingly replaced by orange essential oils. Green manure is practiced, mainly planting grasses and field beans and, despite being in favor of grassing, in the summer months the soil is worked to prevent it from splitting due to drought. In the cellar, wood is not used by choice and philosophy, in order not to cover and standardize the wines, wanting to enhance their varietal characteristics and the surrounding area.

Seven labels were produced and of these only one in the shortlist that we had the pleasure of receiving in the editorial office. Here are our impressions.

ROSATO COLLINE PESCARESI IGT 2022

Bottles produced: approximately 5000. Sales price €15.00.

Montepulciano 100%. It is proven proof of the evolutionary potential of Montepulciano in rosa: certainly less accommodating than the freshly harvested versions, but endowed with unscratchable energy. With an intense cherry color, almost light ruby. On the nose it offers flavors of black cherry and plum, then candied blood orange, withering flowers and some earthly hints. Iridescent and multifaceted in the mouth, full of fruit and at the same time dynamic, enveloping and with a good weight body and a hint of tannin that reinforces its small red personality. The medicinal herbs mix with the fruit and iodized memories - almost of brine - which extend the still tonic and tasty closure of the sip.

The Teramo Hills

Among the most fascinating territories of Abruzzo, the  Teramane Hills , four valleys, Vibrata, Salinello, Tordino, Vomano, which, from the imposing Gran Sasso, descend towards the Adriatic sea. Among the wineries in this area that is establishing itself as a symbol of regional quality,  Cerulli Spinozzi in Canzano , 30 km respectively from the Apennines and from Giulianova, a well-known seaside tourist resort. It was born from the merger of two ancient agricultural properties, that of the Spinozzi family present in the area since 1600 and that of the Cerulli Irellis with a mercantile tradition.

A total of 180 hectares of property, 35 of which are planted with vines (conducted according to sustainable agriculture methods) and the remainder divided between olive trees, tomatoes and various arable land. The company has always been oriented towards the exaltation of the typical grapes of the Region and of the Colline Teramane denomination: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, all available in 3 different lines - "Torre Migliori", "Cortalto", up to the latest creation called " Gruè" - which, with different styles and winemaking, tell the story of the artisanal, "strong and gentle" soul - as Primo Levi wrote - of a surprising Abruzzo.

Two labels arrived in the editorial office belonging to the two lines "Gruè" and "Cortalto".

The “Gruè” line was created to offer wines to be enjoyed for their agility in the sip. This sense of immediacy, of lightheartedness is also strengthened by the images shown on the different labels, five inspired by the "Third Heaven", a work created in 1954 by the Castelli school for the Milan Triennale, which represents a modern reinterpretation of the precious ceiling in ceramics of the church of San Donato, the “Sistine Chapel” of majolica. Each reproduction characterizes a type of native wine, from Montepulciano to Cerasuolo, from Trebbiano to Pecorino, up to Colline Teramane Docg.

GRUÈ CERASUOLO D'ABRUZZO DOC 2022

Bottles produced: 16,000. Sale price: €7.00

Montepulciano 100%. An immediate wine, subtle pink with ruby veins and aromas of berries, delicate tones of black cherry, red apple and puffs of gentian. Slender and delicate but at the same time satisfying to sip. It tastes of blood orange with an interesting smoky note to enrich the fruit and a nice savory, juicy, regenerating sip that ends with an intriguing note of cinchona and rhubarb. It is a wine of great versatility at the table.

The other line, " Cortalto"  includes vines of approximately 12 years of age, coming from the single vineyard. The wines are produced with a longer stay on the fine lees and a refinement in the bottle for at least one year.

CORTÀLTO CERASUOLO DOC SUPERIORE 2022

Bottles produced: 4,000. Sale price: €11.00

In the glass it has a bright, brilliant, cherry red color of notable intensity, almost ruby, with aromas of red fruit among which cherry and sour cherry stand out, notes of small red fruits with hints of raspberry and strawberries and pleasant citrus hints, from the flower of orange with bergamot.

On the palate it offers a marked freshness, flavor and aroma, good alcoholic structure, for a sip that is soft, ending savory, slightly bitter to cleanse the mouth. Intriguing, it conquers the palate for its pleasant harmony and the right balance between its softness and its fresh salinity. A decidedly gastronomic wine.
